Sri Moola Rama Charitable Trust was formed by a few young Maadhwa Brahmins, to help the people in need.
Interestingly, the founder members do not come from the very affluent segment of the society, but they are the ones who are aware of social obligation, the responsibility they have towards the have-nots in the society. Therefore, they decided to help the poor and the needy, mobilizing the moderate resources they had.
The society, at any point in time, has a number of areas which are badly in need of help in one form or the other. The members decided to address a few of them, beginning with one of the neglected aged-people among the Brahmins.
During the last few decades, the Indian society has undergone a drastic change. The joint family system which took care of every member, and which once characteristic the Indian society, is progressively being replaced by nuclear families where elders have hardly any place. Most of the Brahmin families are very small, with one or two children; the children are given a good education after completion of which, they are found to shift to other places or settle abroad, leaving their parents to themselves. No doubt, they help parents financially much more than what they need. But what parents need is not money but love and affection which money cannot buy. Most of the parents are, therefore, compelled to take shelter in old-age homes.
Old-age homes are mushrooming in many states; they take good care of the inmates, providing them with all facilities, but they often do not have a homely atmosphere and the ambience, where the Brahmins, in particular, feel being at home. The members decided to build an Old-age home, a caring one, in a calm and quiet atmosphere, for the community members.
There are many places that offer the required atmosphere of peace. But the members were in search of a place which not only offered peaceful atmosphere, but also a holy environment that helped the inmates in their spiritual journey. They found Tirukkoilur an ideal place for the purpose.
Tirukkoilur known for the Vrindavan of Shri Raghoottamateertha Swamiji, a great tapaswin, has a peaceful atmosphere. The Vrindavana on the bank of the river has an ambience of an ashram of ancient times and a deep tranquilizing atmosphere which transcends the Vrindavana premises, to cover the neighborhood. Besides, a great tapaswin as he was, Shri Swamiji is believed to be abiding in the Vrindavana and has been blessing those who pray to him.
The members discussed the proposal with the members of the Raghoottamateertha Sannidhan. The Sannidhan members liked the idea of an Old-age in the vicinity of the Sannidhan. The members then sought the advice of HH Shri Satyatmateertha Swamiji, Pontiff, the Uttaradi Math. HH appreciated the idea, particularly for its wider reach, and blessed them to go ahead with the project.
With the blessings of HH Shri Satyatmateertha Swamiji, the Trust could manage to purchase a plot near the Sannidhan and proposes to commence construction of the old-age home and complete the first phase before the next aaradhana of Shri Raghoottamteertha Swamiji. The old-age home when completed would provide a homely atmosphere and much-needed solace to the aged Brahmins, and also the spiritual environment in the evening of their life.
The Trust appeals to the Brahmin Community to extend help to it in the fulfillment if its noble objectives of serving it and society, in need. Details about the project are attached on the next page.
